As noted earlier, in November 2006 the UN has released a shocking report that managed to open the eyes of the world that in fact 18% of greenhouse gas emissions come from maintenance activities chickens, cows, pigs and other farm animals. On the other hand, cars, motorcycles, large trucks, airplanes, and all other means of transportation that you can name only accounted for 13% of greenhouse gas emissions. Imagine this fact: It was a major producer of harmful gas emissions that threaten the life of our planet today is not the cars, motorcycles, or trucks and buses with pollution are annoying you. But the harmful emissions that come from something that seems simple, helpless, and look delicious on your dining table. That is the meat!
Maybe for you it is extremely exaggerated. But know that this report is not released by a group of scientists paranoid incompetent, or researchers from the local university. This report is released directly by the United Nations through the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization-Food and Agriculture Organization). Of course a bit difficult to imagine how a chick is born from the eggs are so fragile, that looks so small compared to the extent of this planet, could give such a huge influence on climate change. The answer is in their numbers they are enormous. The United States alone slaughtered no less than 10 billion land animals every year (not including fish and other marine animals). Imagine how much amount when combined with the rest of the world.
1. Maintenance of farm animals requires electrical energy to the lights and ancillary equipment farms, ranging from heating, mowers, etc.. One of the largest electrical inefficiency of cooling machines for storage of meat. Whether on farms or in the stations (distributors, retailers, restaurants, markets, etc.) before the meat arrives at your home / your dinner plate. You certainly know that the machines cooling of electronic equipment which is very wasteful of electricity / energy.
2. Transportation used, both for transporting livestock, fodder, to other farms supporting elements (drugs, etc.) result in significant carbon emissions.
3. Farms suck up so many other support resources, ranging from animal feed to drugs and hormones to accelerate growth. Perhaps at first glance looks like a supporter of economic growth. But can you imagine how many more emissions produced each of these support industries? An advanced economy no longer means that our planet was destroyed! There are still many sectors of the cleantech industry that could be developed in this world. So why should develop a sector which endanger the lives of us all?

4. Livestock requires no small amount of land. For the sake of clearing the farm, so much rain forests are sacrificed. It is still reinforced by the many who also destroyed forests to grow crops to feed livestock (corn, grass, etc.). Though it would be much more efficient when plants are given directly to humans. Cattle ranch just have to suck enough food to meet the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people! More than the human population in the world. WORLD HUNGER WILL NOT HAPPEN IF EVERYONE vegetarian. A research states that a vegetarian to save up to half an acre of trees every year! Tropical rain forests have large-scale deforestation to provide land farms. Fifty-five square feet of rainforest are destroyed only to produce one ounce burger! The destruction of forests equal to exacerbate the effects of global warming due to CO2 stored in the plant will be liberated into the atmosphere along with the demise of these plants.
5. Farm animals such as cattle methane is a significant pollutant. Cattle will naturally release methane from the stomach during the process of digesting food (we recognize as belch-glegekan say Java). Methane is a greenhouse gas with emissions are 23 times worse than CO2. And billions of animals around the world every day doing this process that eventually become pollutants significant greenhouse gas. No less than 100 billion tons of methane produced livestock sector every year!
6. Waste of manure containing compound NO (Nitrogen Oxide) which is actually 300 times more harmful than CO2. The question is: So how much manure are there? In the United States alone, cattle producing no less than 39.5 tons of manure per second! Imagine how much that amount in the whole world! An incredible amount of it makes most of the dirt can not be further processed into fertilizer or other useful things, finally performed by actors of modern livestock industry is dumping into the river or into other places that eventually poison the land and resources sources of water. Contribution of NO gas from the livestock sector is very significant!
